Pilgrimage in Piacenza

The classes 3A and 3B on the root of pilgrims

Last month, class 3A and 3B went to Piacenza by bus. First we went to the church of “Santa Maria di Campagna”. Our guide was a nice man  and he spoke in english about pilgrims and the Via Francigena.

The tour start near this Church, which was the place where the first crusade started. The next stop was in the hospital and the guide spoke about the function of hospitals in the middle age and about the rights of pilgrims. After the hospital, we went to “Piazza Borgo” along “Via Taverna”; this square was very strange for its particoular shape and also for the height of the church.

The tour finished in the city centre and the guide spoke about a tax for pilgrims: they paid its if they entered in the town walls. For this reason they passed outside the city.

I think the tour was very intresting for the information that we heard and for the fantastic buildings we saw.

[Il mese scorso, le classi 3A e 3B sono andate a Piacenza. All’inizio abbiamo sostato davanti alla chiesa di “Santa Maria Di Campagna”. La nostra guida era un signore gentile, che ci ha parlato in inglese dei pellegrini e della Via Francigena. Siamo partiti per la nostra visita vicino a questa chiesa, dove partì la prima crociata. La fermata successiva è stata nel cortile dell’ospedale, dove la guida ci ha spiegato la funzione degli ospedali nel medioevo e i diritti dei pellegrini.  All’uscita dall’ospedale abbiamo proseguito per “Via Taverna” e siamo arrivati a “Piazza Borgo”; questo luogo era molto strano per la sua forma particolare e per l’altezza della chiesa. La gita è terminata nel centro di Piacenza: “Piazza Cavalli”, dove i pellegrini non passavano per non pagare la tassa d’ingresso alla città. Io penso che il tour sia stato molto interessante per le informazioni che ho imparato e per le costruzioni caratteristiche che ho visto].
